Summer 2009

It seems the only constant thing in our lives this past year has been "change", and the coming year will be no different. Much of this change begins in Washington in the form of new legislation meant to deal with the economic crisis we find ourselves enduring. While some of this legislation may actually prove helpful to our industry and clients, we must remain vigil at both a National and State level, and be ready to let our voices be heard when the regulations being discussed will prove onerous to our businesses and consumers. This takes a combination of positioning the right people in our state and federal legislatures, as well as the money to fund their actions on our behalf. I am proud to tell you that your local association has, for the third year in a row, been the top chapter in Florida in terms of donating money to our state Mortgage Political Action Campaign. This has allowed your voices to be heard, and helped modify or defeat harmful legislation. For those who helped make this possible by donating money and joining our "99" Club, I sincerely thank you. And for those that did not, believe me you received more of a benefit than you realize, and I hope you will step up this year and make your own voice heard in Tallahassee, and on Capital Hill.

From a local standpoint, we plan to continue our successful Education Seminars, giving you the opportunity to be as knowledgeable as possible about important issues affecting your business. I think you will be pleased with the quality of speakers and topics presented at our Monthly Member Lunches, as well as have some fun with our annual Chinese Auction. And, finally, we will continue our local association's tradition of making the community where we live and work a better place by helping others through our annual food drive and toy drive. In all these areas we welcome your feedback and suggestions as we strive to assist our members and make your experience with the MBA a positive one.

Lastly, I want you to know the leadership of your organization, including our Officers, Governors, and Committee Chairs, are all committed to making your chapter the best in the state. Thank you for allowing us to represent you. Together, we will accomplish great things.
